Hello,
Here is the complete report and transcript discussing the museum-quality Iowa Hill specimen:
--- MYTH-BUSTING REPORT: THE "BECKY STONE" ---
SPECIMEN OVERVIEW:
• Weight: 23 pounds
• Origin: Iowa Hill Mining District (Placer County, California)
• Discovery Context: Recovered from a private patented gold mine via dynamite blast within an ancient, cemented river channel.
• Provenance: Originally from mine owner Kathy Morgan's personal rock garden, later gifted to Mr. Lloyd Dirk for his wife Rebecca (the namesake of the stone), and subsequently cut and polished by artist Marshall Curran.
THE BOTANICAL MYTH vs. GEOLOGICAL REALITY
• The Claim: A Cretaceous-era Birdseye Maple (Bursera fagaroides) stump with an intact root mass.
• The Verdict (Busted): Botanically, a single plant cannot be both Maple (Sapindaceae family) and Bursera (Burseraceae family). Geologically, the vascular tubes visible under a microscope in the polished cabochon completely rule out maple (which displays tight growth rings).
• The True Identity: The structural evidence—hundreds of distinct, packed vascular tubes bundled together—is a textbook match for Petrified Palm Root (Palmoxylon). It represents a spectacular Miocene-era tropical palm root system preserved in stone, rather than a Cretaceous maple tree.
THE SCIENTIFIC CONFIRMATIONS
• Paleobiological Inclusions (Confirmed): Macro photos verify an exceptional trace fossil archive. The center of the specimen preserves ancient wood-boring insect activity, featuring distinct concentric larval pupal chambers, boring tunnels, and dark organic frass (insect waste) locked in stone.
• Opalization & Matrix (Confirmed): The specimen features a dense, cream-colored cortex/sedimentary rind that locked the plant in place. Beautiful, translucent pockets of amber-colored common opal fill the inner structural voids where the wood tissue dissolved.
• Precious Metal Inclusions (Confirmed Plausible): Given its location blown from a deep, ancient gold-bearing river channel capped by volcanic rock, the presence of native gold or pyrite inclusions within the voids is geologically sound.
RARITY COMPARISON
• The Claim: Surpasses the legendary Hope Diamond in rarity.
• The Verdict (Busted): "Rarity stacking" is a creative aesthetic descriptor. While a 23-pound fossilized root mass with entomological inclusions is an exceptional, museum-grade piece of California natural history, it does not match the deep-mantle crystalline physics, boron-infusion, or the $250 million historical market value of the Hope Diamond.
SUMMARY:
The poetic sales label is technically a myth, but the physical specimen is a 100% genuine geological treasure. It stands as a world-class, museum-grade piece of Miocene petrified palm root history straight out of the historic California Gold Rush.

Sorry Brandi H., but it has already been authenticated to be Birdseye Maple. Plus, Palm trees were not in the same Geological area.
